Overview
Being an institution of higher learning and seat of excellence in an international arena, SZABIST-Dubai campus management initiated variety of academic and research reforms including establishment of Research Centre in 2014. The centre assumes the responsibility of facilitating and accommodating students and faculty members in carrying on world class research activities. Initially, the centre started functioning with a sole objective of facilitating students in their final research and business projects, independent studies, final theses at graduate and undergraduate level. However, the role and scope of the centre has grown much bigger than where it started from.
Additional component of working paper series has been added in to the centre’s main functions. Working Paper Series at SZABIST Dubai has been initiated to create conducive environment for conceptualization of scientific knowledge. The scope of the working paper series goes beyond the campus research activities and welcomes the external researchers and scholars to send their extraordinary unpublished papers in the domains of economics, banking, management sciences, computer sciences and media studies.
Arrangement of workshops and training sessions is another component recently added into the functions and scope of the research centre. Structured sessions on report writing using MS word with referencing styles are introduced for students along with introductory sessions on use of statistical softwares SPSS/Eviews/Microfit are introduced for the students enrolled in various research activities at the campus.
ORIC-SZABIST
Relationship between university and industry is older than 100 years. In recent millennium global knowledge economy has strengthen the need for strategic partnerships that go beyond their traditional roles as collaborators. World-class research universities are at the forefront of pioneering such partnerships. They are intended to run longer, invest more, look beyond and sharpen the competitiveness of industries, universities and regions. Keeping in view of these challenges, the Office of the Research, Innovation and Commercialization has been initiated at Szabist, Karachi. The mission of ORIC as outlined by HEC is “Transforming Pakistani universities to drive high impact innovation, applied research and entrepreneurship”. The ORIC’s vision is to enable and lead Pakistan’s transformation to a knowledge-based economy dependent upon innovation and entrepreneurship. The Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization is being establish to link research and commercialization from Szabist with emerging and existing firms across Pakistan and around the world. As an umbrella, ORIC is meant to work closely with the researchers and on campus Incubators & S&T Park. The ORIC office also serves as a conduit to local, regional and federal partners to ensure research results aid the growth of Pakistan’s economy. ORIC will develop it mechanism for research commercialization and will establish Business/Technology Incubator to work closely for innovation and entrepreneurship.
